The Insurance Services Office (ISO) has assigned Crystal Fire Department a Class 5 rating.

An improved ISO rating was achieved in 2003.  A letter from the ISO to the Board Chairman at the time, Mr. Danny Harris, dated January 13, 2003, states, “your community’s fire suppression services are improving in the face of the demands of a changing environment.  Congratulations on this recognition of your commitment to serve the needs of your community’s property owners and residents.”

ISO upgrades are made after extensive review and testing of the department.   Key areas examined in determining the rating include equipment owned, firefighter training and response rates, and pumping and water hauling capabilities.  An important factor in Crystal Fire Department obtaining the upgrade was a recent agreement with West Pulaski Fire Department to provide automatic assistance for fighting structure fires.
